Work with us
Jobs at the zoo
We are a small team looking after a large hillside, so everyone here does a bit of everything. These are the four routes in — a permanent or seasonal job, part-time hours, a student placement, or volunteering.
-
Permanent and seasonal roles
The main way in. One form covers every role we recruit for, and you pick the team you want to join.
- Park Keeper — full time, seasonal or weekends
- Head Park Keeper
- Café Supervisor and Café Assistant
- Retail Manager and Retail Assistant
- Head Trekker, and Tractor Tour Driver
Apply for a jobOpens our job application form. You can attach a CV, and you will be asked for one reference. Applications are held for up to three months and then deleted.
-
Part-time work
If you are looking for weekends, school hours or holiday cover, this is the shorter form. Tell us when you are free and which team you would like to join.
- Kitchen team — chef or cook
- Café team
- Retail, admissions and administration
- Maintenance and landscaping
Apply for part-time workOpens our part-time application form.
-
Student work placements
Hands-on experience alongside an experienced team member, in the sector of your choice — the zoo, the farm, conservation, catering, retail, forestry, marketing and more.
- One week up to three months, subject to availability
- The working week runs Wednesday to Sunday, 8.30am to 5.30pm
- Limited accommodation is available in a static caravan — check availability before booking
Book a work placementOpens our work placement form, which also books accommodation if you need it.
-
Volunteering
We are a small team and we rely on help. Volunteers work on animal upkeep, gardening, enclosure maintenance and talking to visitors — as an individual or as a group.
- A typical day starts at 9.30am and finishes at 4pm, with a coffee break and homemade soup and a sandwich at 2pm
- Group projects we need help with: the dog walk path, the lemur shelter, the nerf zone in Trenches Wood, and the apiary at the honey hut
- Bee suits provided

What the teams actually do
- Animal Keeper
- Responsible for the day-to-day care and wellbeing of the animals — feeding, grooming and cleaning the enclosures.
- Café and restaurant
- Our busy café is always looking for friendly people to help prepare and serve food, and to clear and clean.
- Admissions
- The admissions team look after every booking — groups, parties and individuals — and arrange events from weddings to themed children’s parties.
- Maintenance
- We are continually repairing and maintaining the site. It is a never-ending job, from cutting grass and pulling weeds to painting sheds and repairing fences.
